This three hour workshop will explore the evolution of Motivational Interviewing (MI) over decades of research and why some of the most well know techniques have changed or are no longer considered best practices. Shane Moes is a Licensed Clinician who has worked effectively with highly resistant clients in a range of settings and process. Shane has run workshops on MI for staff techs, call center workers, clinicians and clinical supervisors. This experiential workshop will engage attendees in learning skills that best fit their work environments as well as how to engage colleagues and staff in utilizing MI.
Motivational Interviewing has been highly researched for more than 30 years and the current best practices have evolved to more effectively engage and speed up the change process. This workshop is focused on basic and strategic Motivational Interviewing skill development as well as learning strategies for decreasing resistance and increasing change talk. Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of MI style as well as problem solving barriers to full utilization of MI skills.
